General index to deeds-grantor 1794-1901.

This index provides access to deeds using the name of the seller of the property. Information in the index includes name of grantor (seller); name of grantee (purchaser); kind of instrument other than deed, if any; volume number and page number where deed is recorded; date of deed and date deed was recorded (month, day, and year); and a short statement providing description and location of the property being transferred. Usually, if more than one grantor or grantee was involved in a transaction, only the first grantor or grantee was listed in the index.

Fayette County was formed by Virginia in 1780 as one of the three original counties of the Kentucky District. It was named for General Lafayette. Lexington is the county seat.
